Annual Household Canvass
Each year the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is required to conduct a canvass of all households in their area for the purpose of updating the electoral register.
The ERO is required to get in touch with every household to check that the electoral register is up to date, and to identify any residents who should be registered but are currently missing. Everyone who lives in Scotland and is 14 or over can now register to vote.
The 2024 canvass took place between August and November and information provided was used to update the register which was published on Sunday 1 December 2024.
If you’re not currently registered, the easiest way to do so is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
How does it work?
- Data matching will establish which canvass ‘route’ each property will go down.
- The ERO uses a variety of communication methods. This can include emails, paper forms, text messages, phone calls or house visits.
- Everyone over the age of 14 can register to vote and should be included in any response.
How do you respond?
- You can respond by going to www.elecreg.co.uk/lothian-vjb. Follow the instructions provided.
